The best way of ordering repeat prescriptions is online through   Using the NHS App

Alternatively, you can order repeat prescriptions by coming into the Surgery and fill in a repeat prescription form.

You can also order using online tool (Accurx) which is also available through NHS app under Services.

We will also accept prescription requests by e-mail to the generic Practice e-mail address gmicb-hmr.healeysurgery@nhs.net

It is important that you allow 3 working days notice—prior to running out of your medication for these requests.

We cannot accept repeat prescriptions by phone, post or verbally at the reception desk as this breaks medical confidentiality regulations and causes delays for other patients waiting. 

We will send your prescriptions electronically to your nominated pharmacy.

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

This can be done with our in house Pharmacist.

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from and they will be able to accept it.

Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

At Healey Surgery we take patient safety very seriously. We follow the recent NICE guidance for chronic pain management and continually update and review our clinical practice to ensure patient care is of the highest standard. Recent research has highlighted a significant risk to patient safety around the use of opioid type painkillers for chronic pain.

We know that these drugs are helpful in pain of recent onset for example a broken bone and they are also effective in patients with cancer related pain. However, recent medical evidence questions the benefit of opioid type painkillers for chronic pain. We now don’t think they are very good at killing pain at all when taken for more than a few months. If you have been prescribed opioids for chronic pain and because we don't want our patients put at risk, we have been working on reducing your pain medications.  Please discuss with GP or Practice pharmacist if you have any concerns regarding this. 

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
